Koffee With Karan 9: Karan Johar’s Biggest Dream Revealed

Koffee With Karan 9 opens with Salman Khan, and Karan Johar reveals his biggest dream: directing Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan together in a single film again.

Bollywood fans have been asking one question for years: will Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan share the screen again? The answer is still unclear. But the new season of Karan Johar’s popular chat show has given the wish a fresh push.

Koffee With Karan 9 is back on screen, and its first episode has already started a conversation. Host Karan Johar used the rapid-fire round to name the film he most wants to make.

Koffee With Karan 9: What Happened in the First Episode?
The first episode of the ninth season features superstar Salman Khan as the guest. During the rapid-fire round, Karan was asked a playful hypothetical. If he could become Shah Rukh Khan for one day, what would he do first?

Karan answered with his usual humour. He said he would first call Karan Johar and ask him to make a film with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan together.

The joke carries a real wish. In short, Karan’s biggest dream is to direct both superstars in one film, and he is saying so on the very first episode of Koffee With Karan Season 9.

Why Does Karan Johar Want to Direct Shah Rukh and Salman Together?
The reason lies in Karan’s own career. He has worked closely with Shah Rukh Khan for decades, and the two are among the industry’s best-known creative partners. Salman Khan, too, has a personal link to Karan’s journey as a filmmaker.

That link is Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Johar’s first film as director. Both Shah Rukh and Salman were part of the film, and Salman played a special role in it. For Karan, bringing the two together again would feel like completing a circle.

There is a simple audience reason too. A Shah Rukh–Salman film would draw huge attention. The pair have always been popular on screen, and fans keep hoping for a full-length project rather than a cameo.

Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan: A Timeline of On-Screen Moments

The two stars have shared the screen several times over the years. Here is a quick look:

Karan Arjun: Their first film together.
Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: Both stars appeared in these films, adding to the pair’s popularity.
Om Shanti Om: Salman Khan made a cameo in the song “Deewangi Deewangi.”
Zero: Salman Khan also appeared in Shah Rukh Khan’s film.
Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega: Shah Rukh Khan made a cameo in Salman’s film.
From Pathaan to Tiger 3: The Recent Chapter

The two stars have kept up the tradition in recent years, mostly through cameos in each other’s films. Salman Khan appeared as Tiger in Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan. In return, Shah Rukh Khan appeared as Pathaan in Salman Khan’s Tiger 3.

The two were last seen together on screen in 2023 in Tiger 3. Fans have been waiting for a full film since then. That is why Karan’s remark on Koffee With Karan 9 has found such a strong response online.

What Fans Can Expect Next
For now, this is only a wish. Karan has not announced any project, cast or release date. No official confirmation has come from Shah Rukh Khan or Salman Khan either. Readers should treat the remark as a light-hearted line from the show, not a film announcement.

Still, it has set the mood for the season. If the first episode is any sign, Koffee With Karan Season 9 will mix Bollywood nostalgia with fresh headlines. Further episodes and guests will show how the season develops.
