Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Citadel Season 2’ is now streaming. Her performance is outstanding but a weak screenplay and confusing narrative make it an average watch.
Three Years of Waiting — But No Bang
When the first season of ‘Citadel’ arrived in 2023, it came with enormous noise around it. Amazon Prime‘s massive budget, Priyanka Chopra’s Hollywood comeback, Richard Madden’s star power — everything lined up at once. Now, three years later, the second season is here.
Audience reactions from those who have already watched all seven episodes are mixed. Priyanka has delivered brilliantly, but the story never quite reaches where it needed to go.
The Story — Season 2 Picks Up Right Where Season 1 Left Off
The second season opens with a major revelation. It turns out that the real traitor within the Citadel agency is none other than Mason Kane, alias Kyle (Richard Madden), who had leaked classified agency information for the sake of his mother Dahlia.
Meanwhile, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci) is in the clutches of the dangerous villain Paul Braga (Gabriel Leone). Braga wants a chip built that can control the human mind — and he plans to use it to assassinate the Russian President. He has given himself ten days to get it done.
On the other side, Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra) is trying to live a quiet life with her daughter Asha. When the truth about Mason Kane reaches her, the story takes a sharp turn. Bernard reassembles the entire Citadel team once again, and the real game begins.
Every episode carries at least one twist that keeps you engaged. But the sheer volume of these twists, combined with constantly shifting timelines, ends up confusing the viewer more than once.
Priyanka Chopra — The Soul of the Series
When it comes to acting, Priyanka Chopra is the strongest element of this season. Every time she appears on screen, the series comes alive.
She is fully convincing in the action sequences. The glamour, as always, is effortless. But what works best are her emotional scenes — the moments with her daughter, the longing for family. That is where Priyanka feels most real.
Gabriel Leone’s villain Paul Braga is watchable, though this kind of antagonist has been seen in many thrillers before. Jack Renner brings some welcome relief as James Hatch — a clever but entertaining character. Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci have both done justice to their respective roles.
Direction and Craft — Stunning to Look At, Average to Feel
The budget of ‘Citadel Season 2’ is visible throughout. The locations are spectacular, the camerawork is stylish, and the production values rival any major Hollywood production.
But that is also where the problem lies. When the canvas is this grand and the story cannot keep up with it, everything starts to feel hollow. Action sequences repeat themselves in places. The constant jumping between countries, flashbacks, and different time periods becomes overwhelming, and the narrative thread slips from your hands more than once.
The direction is competent, but the screenplay is weak — and when the screenplay stumbles, even good direction can only do so much.
Music — Functional, Nothing More
The background score helps build tension and urgency in a few scenes. But music plays no significant role in this series overall. It runs in the background and does its job without leaving any impression.
Should You Watch It?
If you are a Priyanka Chopra fan, this series is for you. She dominates the screen and gets the space she deserves.
But if you are looking for a tightly written, hard-hitting spy thriller, there is a chance you will come away slightly disappointed. In the current OTT era, Indian audiences have already watched content like ‘Mirzapur’, ‘Paatal Lok’, ‘Spectre’, and ‘Sherlock’. By that standard, ‘Citadel Season 2’ lands somewhere just above average.
The gloss is there. Priyanka’s performance is there. What is missing is the story that could have tied everything together into something truly memorable.
