The FDFS timing of Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film Jana Nayagan has been revised. In Kerala, the first show will now start at 6 AM on January 9, 2026.
Jana Nayagan, considered the final cinematic outing of Thalapathy Vijay, has once again grabbed attention ahead of its theatrical release. This time, the focus is on a change in the First Day First Show (FDFS) timing in Kerala.
The film, earlier expected to open with a 4 AM show, will now begin screenings at 6 AM on January 9, 2026. The decision comes just days before the grand Pongal release and has sparked discussion among fans across South India.
Pongal 2026 Release Locked
Jana Nayagan is scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival. A Vijay release during Pongal is traditionally seen as a major box office event, with fans closely tracking every update related to show timings, bookings, and promotions.
Why the FDFS Timing Was Changed
The Kerala distribution company, SSR Entertainments, issued an official clarification stating that the original plan for a 4 AM show had to be revised. The change was made after early morning show permissions were not granted in Tamil Nadu, prompting a uniform adjustment in Kerala as well.
In its statement, the distributor said,
“We regret the inconvenience caused to Thalapathy Vijay fans. All shows of Jana Nayagan in Kerala will begin from 6 AM on January 9, 2026.”
The clarification made it clear that the decision was driven by regulatory and logistical reasons.
Fans React, Trade Sees Practical Move
While some fans expressed disappointment over the absence of a 4 AM show, reactions on social media remained largely measured. Trade experts believe the 6 AM slot is more practical, allowing better crowd control and smoother theatre operations, especially given the scale of the release.
Strong Star Cast and Pan-India Appeal
The film stars Thalapathy Vijay in the lead, alongside Pooja Hegde and Bobby Deol in key roles. Supporting performances come from Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, and Narain, adding depth and wider audience appeal.
Audio Launch in Malaysia
The makers recently held a large-scale audio launch in Malaysia, coupled with a concert titled Thalapathy Thiruvizha. Filmmakers Atlee, Lokesh Kanagaraj, and Nelson Dilipkumar attended the event, sharing memories of working with Vijay and acknowledging his decision to step away from films.
Story Buzz and Multilingual Release
According to reports, Jana Nayagan revolves around an ideological conflict rooted in the past, with the protagonist, a former police officer, drawn into a larger social battle. Speculation also suggests elements of humans versus AI, though no official confirmation has been made. The film is expected to release in Telugu as Jana Nayakudu and in Hindi as Jan Neta.
Though the FDFS timing in Kerala has been pushed to 6 AM, the anticipation around Jana Nayagan remains strong. As Thalapathy Vijay’s final film, it is being viewed as both a major release and an emotional farewell. With Pongal 2026 approaching, all eyes are now on how the film opens at the box office.
