Netflix Makes Official Announcement
Mumbai. The release date of the much-talked-about crime thriller web series Kohra Season 2 has finally been revealed. OTT platform Netflix India, on Wednesday, shared the official poster and confirmed that Kohra Season 2 will premiere on February 11, 2026. This time, the makers promise a fresh narrative with new characters and a darker mystery.
Success of Season 1 Sets the Foundation
Released in 2023, Kohra Season 1 received widespread appreciation from both audiences and critics. Set against a Hindi-Punjabi backdrop, the series earned a rare 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and scored 7.5 on IMDb. Its sensitive portrayal of social tensions, class divide and crime helped the show stand out in the crowded OTT space.
Mona Singh’s Character Adds New Authority
Mona Singh’s entry into the series is being seen as a significant creative addition. Known for portraying strong and layered characters across television and digital platforms, Singh’s role as Dhanwant Kaur brings a firm administrative presence to the narrative. Her character is positioned not merely as a superior officer but as a figure navigating authority, responsibility and personal constraints within the police system. This dynamic is expected to create friction as well as balance with Amarpal Garundi’s investigative approach.
New Cast, New City, Fresh Investigation
In Season 2, Barun Sobti reprises his role as Assistant Sub-Inspector Amarpal Garundi, but the setting undergoes a significant shift. Mona Singh joins the cast in a lead role as strict and disciplined police officer Dhanwant Kaur. According to the makers, the story revolves around crime emerging within a new city and a different policing system.
Story Begins with a Transfer Order
Visuals released by Netflix also feature Amarpal Garundi’s transfer appointment letter. He is transferred from Jagrana to the Dalerpura Police Station, where he will report to his new commanding officer, Dhanwant Kaur. Soon after his arrival, a brutal murder case surfaces in the area, becoming the central investigation of the season.
Personal Conflicts Amid a Murder Mystery
Kohra Season 2 is not limited to solving a murder alone. As the investigation deepens, the personal struggles, emotional baggage and past traumas of both Amarpal and Dhanwant come to the fore. The season explores crime, power and fractured relationships, highlighting human vulnerability beneath the uniform.
Netflix’s Strategy in the Crime Genre
For Netflix India, Kohra Season 2 is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its original crime slate. With viewers increasingly gravitating toward serious, long-form narratives, the platform appears to be investing in sequels that have proven audience recall and critical credibility. The decision to extend Kohra into a second season reflects confidence in its storytelling model.
Same Creative Team, Sharper Narrative
The series is directed by Sudip Sharma and Faisal Rahman, while production is handled by Saurabh Malhotra, Sudip Sharma, Manuj Mitra and Tina Tharwani. The makers claim that Season 2 will be more intense, emotionally layered and complex in terms of storytelling and character development.
Showrunner and director Sudip Sharma said,
“Season 1 of Kohra allowed us to explore the silent tensions that exist within society. In Season 2, we have stayed close to reality once again. It’s an emotional and intense journey where every character is fighting their own battle.”
With the announcement of Kohra Season 2, Netflix is set to further strengthen its position in the Indian crime thriller genre. A new cast dynamic, a changed setting and a layered murder mystery signal a darker and more compelling chapter ahead. All eyes are now on February 11, 2026.
