India and Sri Lanka are jointly hosting this mega tournament, which will start from February 7, 2026. The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Thursday shared details of the first phase of ticket sales, stating that the starting ticket price has been kept at Rs 100 in India and Rs 1000 in Sri Lanka.
The ICC has clarified that this pricing is part of a key strategy to bring cricket to a wider audience. The date for the second phase of ticket sales will be announced soon. Fans will be able to buy tickets online by visiting tickets.cricketworldcup.com.
ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta said regarding the tickets, “The ticket sales in the first phase are our first step towards making this event a success in the most accessible and easy way ever.” Our vision is that every cricket fan, irrespective of their nationality or financial status, should have the opportunity to come to the stadium and experience this World Cup event.
The starting price of the ticket is kept from Rs. 100 to Rs. 1000 Lankan Rupees so that millions of cricket lovers can experience the game not only on the TV screen but also by sitting in the cricket stadium and feel that energy, feel the passion and excitement that makes cricket one of the most popular sports around the world.
The tournament will feature 20 teams and a total of 55 matches.
A total of 20 teams are participating in the 2026 T20 World Cup, and a total of 55 matches will be played. Three matches are scheduled every day, the first of which will start at 11 am, the second at 3 pm and the third at 7 pm.
This World Cup will feature four groups of five teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super 8.
The groups for the first round are as follows:
Group A: India, Pakistan, USA, Netherlands, Namibia
Group B: Sri Lanka, Australia, Ireland, Zimbabwe, Oman
Group C: England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal, Italy
Group D: New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan, Canada, UAE
Each team will play four league matches. The group stage will determine the Super 8s, where two groups will be formed.
The Super 8 groups are as follows:
Super 8 Group 1: X1 (India), X2 (Australia), X3 (West Indies), X4 (South Africa)
Super 8 Group 2: Y1 (England), Y2 (New Zealand), Y3 (Pakistan), Y4 (Sri Lanka)
If any other team qualifies in place of these teams in the first round, then that team will join the same slot, The slot in which the team will be eliminated. Each team in the Super 8s will play three matches and the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
Where will the semifinals and final be held?
The first semifinal of the tournament will be held on March 4th in either Kolkata or Colombo. If Pakistan qualifies from the Super 8s, the match will be played in Colombo due to security reasons. The second semi-final will be played in Mumbai on March 5. The final will be played on March 8, hosted by either Ahmedabad or Colombo. In the event of Pakistan reaching the final, the final will be moved to Colombo.
